Obituary

In life we might meet thousands of people that come and go, but to be blessed to love someone as wonderful and special as William David Gunn is a gift. David was born on March 15, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas to William Taylor Gunn and Maxine Gunn. David, 71, passed away on March 7, 2025 after a 6-month battle with a heart attack and its associated hardships on his health. He is survived by his children, David Taylor Gunn and Forrest A. Gunn;  his sister, Kathy Gunn; his partner, Allison Merks; and his fur babies, Andrew and Riley.
He developed a deep love for the arts at a young age, fixing his hands on any creative project he could and devoting his energy to painting. He pursued this passion and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin before working at USAA for more than 35 years. During this time, he met Clarissa Gunn, fell in love, and they married in 1992. He started a family with her by his side until she was called to be with the Lord in 2007. Through tremendous heartbreak, he remained steadfast in providing a good life for his children. He worked hard to take care of them, making sure their every need and want was satisfied to the best of his ability. He shared his excitement for life with them, whether it was by finding joy in the mundane or the thrill of spontaneous trips. David always made them laugh and held them close when they needed a shoulder to cry on. When his children graduated high school, David would find love again with Allison.
David could make friends with anyone. He accepted everyone for who they were and sought to spread love instead of hate. He brought smiles and laughs to the many loving friends he called family. He will be remembered as a man who saw art in everything the eye catches, who fiercely loved all of God's creatures and children, and whose presence will leave a lasting impression on all those who knew him. We are all deeply saddened by the loss of this highly adored man.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced at a later time.
