Mary Ruth Mendez went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the age of 82 years. She enjoyed painting and sketching as well as donating to her church. Mary Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Mendez in 1976; brothers Pedro and Jorge Morales; and sisters, Leobehilda Fraga and Antonia Felan. She is survived by her sons, Rudy Mendez, Jr. and Andrew Mendez and his wife Celia; grandchildren, Amelia Mendez, Rudy Mendez III, Christina Celeste Gillaspie, Andrew Michael Mendez, Anais Mendez, and Sophia Mendez; great grandchildren, Arianna Marie Ridley and Nadezhda Bethel Celia Mendez; sisters, Petra Hernandez, Virginia Perez, Juanita Arevalo, and Genara Beltran; also numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home on Thursday, January 29th from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will depart the funeral home at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30th for Mass to be celebrated at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church at 8:15 a.m. Mary Ruth will buried with her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
