Mary Lou "Chita" Rivas went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 27, 2018, at the age of 83 years.  Mary Lou was preceded in death by son, Danny Rivas; her parents, George and Hattie Gutierrez, Sr.; In Laws, Ysidro and Amalia Rivas; brother, George Gutierrez, Jr.; grandsons, Jonathan Anthony Garcia and Baby Luis.

She is survived by her husband, Esteban A. Rivas; children, Mary Ann Rivas Garcia (Chris), Stephanie Rivas Contreras (Luis), Steve G. Rivas (Marina), Robert R. Gutierrez (Elvira); 10 Grandchildren; 15 Great-Grandchildren.

Mary Lou was a faithful and loyal servant to St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Knox Elementary, Harris Middle School and a proud Burbank Bulldog, class of 55.

She worked several years at Joske's Department Store in collections and went on to Adolph's Furniture Store and finished her work career off at the Texas Workforce Commission. She was also the favorite Avon Lady calling, door to door around Burbank Loop, for over 30 years.

Mom was a loving, selfless, caring and compassionate woman who was loved by everyone who was lucky to know her. We will miss her yearly phone calls to sing us Happy Birthday, her hilarious one-liners and her smile.

Visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home on Monday, July 30th from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31st for a 9:00 a.m. mass to be celebrated at St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church. Interment will follow in First Memorial Park.
