Maria G. Gaitan went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the age of 93 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tomas O. Gaitan; parents, Pedro and Modesta Gonzalez; and her sisters, Petra and Frances Gonzalez. Maria is survived by her children, Jesus Gonzalez and wife Eleanor, Cecilia Tamayo and husband Ernest, and Thomas Gaitan and wife Margaret; grandchildren, Pedro A. Gonzalez, Michael J. Gonzalez and wife Julie, Adrian, Claudia, and Sonia Gaitan; great grandchildren, Daniel, Gabriela, and Michaela Gonzalez, and Olivia Navarro; sisters, Modesta and Otila Gonzalez; brothers, Antonio Gonzalez and wife Yolanda and Mario Gonzalez and wife Dora; nephews, Guadalupe Martinez, Mario, Jay, and Albert Gonzalez; nieces, Yolanda Pangelinan, Nora Rodriguez, Norma Contreras, and Myra Faris. We would like to thank New Century Hospice for taking care of our mother especially Lisa, Lily, David and Joann. Also to Dr. Tom Gonzaba of Gonzaba Medical Group. Visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will depart the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15th for Mass to be celebrated at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church at 1:15 p.m. Maria will be buried with her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
