Maria A. Fernandez, of Pleasanton, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the age of 72 years. She loved reading about History, traveling, and going to events; such as, Christian Music Concerts and Baseball games.  Maria enjoyed watching her granddaughter compete in gymnastics and her grandson's baseball games and fishing.  She was preceded in death by her brothers, Juan, Manuel, and Tony Castillo; cousin, Willie Castillo.  Maria is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Alex Wilborn Fernandez; daughter, Sandra Fernandez Royal and husband Clint; grandchildren, Johnny Joe Salazar, Samuel Salazar and wife Shayleen, Sirbrina Lynn Salazar, Kevin Royal and wife Katy, Cory Royal, Kayla Royal; great grandchildren, Samuel Perseus Salazar and Kadence Royal; brothers, Martin Castillo and wife Janie, Joe Castillo; cousins, Rosemary Ramiro and Irma Castillo; sisters-in-law, Sally and Paula Castillo; and best friends, Mary Lou Martinez and Liz Fernandez.  Visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home on Sunday, September 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Pleasanton, Tx on Monday, September 10th at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in Wilborn Cemetery in Poteet, Texas.
