Maria Garcia, beloved wife, mother and grandmother entered into rest on August 16, 2017 at the age of 81 and is rejoicing in the presence of our Lord. Mom was born to Inez Valderas and Guadalupe Valderas in Lyford, Texas. Married for 49 years to her husband Richard, who she affectionately called "Poopsie", together they raised six daughters, Maria Alicia Esparza, Blanca Estella Portillo (Kevin), Alma Martinez, Sylvia Hernandez (Joel), Emma Hilda Clark (Glen) and Rosa Maria Esparza. She leaves behind 16 grandkids, 34 great-grand-kids, and 8 great-great-grandkids. She is preceded in death by her beloved "Poopsie", her brothers, Santos and Antonio Balderas, sister Pauline Gonzalez and grandson, Andrew Coronado. Mom loved animals, everything from cats and dogs to fish and hamsters. She was also funny, witty and had a great sense of humor. She especially loved to play April fools jokes on all of us. Mom had many talents including her cooking skills, her love of gardening, and her grandkids will always remember her hidden video game skills. She spent countless hours competing with them. Mom was devoted to her church. She had a knack for turning $1 into hundreds of dollars when it came to raising money for the church missionaries. Mom will be forever missed but always in our hearts.
Her family will begin receiving visitors on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 6p.m. at Southside Funeral Home 6301 South Flores St. with a Prayer Service at 7p.m. Funeral Service at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Southside Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
