Leoti Mae
Hubbs
Sep 16, 1926 — Aug 5, 2024
Castroville
Leoti Mae Hubbs went to be with our Lord on August 5, 2024, at the age of 97. She was born in Tonkawa, Oklahoma on September 16, 1926, to Jerry Lincoln Hubbs and Helen G. Edwards. When Leoti was still a child, the Hubbs family moved to the Valley in Texas. She always said she was a Texan and that she got here as soon as she could.
Leoti graduated from Edinburg High School in 1944, after which she got a job retouching picture negatives and coloring black and white photos. Having accepted the Lord as her Savior in her teens, and becoming highly involved in her local church since, she chose to attend the Christ-centered Pacific University Bible College in Los Angeles, California. Leoti graduated in the 1960s, then found a job in Edinburg, Texas, working in the accounting department of Tide Products Company until her retirement at 62.
Leoti was fond of plants and crafts, and enjoyed teaching Sunday School at her church, which she did for many years. Blessed with artistic talent, she would illustrate stories from the pastor's sermons in chalk for the congregation. After retirement from Tide, she created textile greeting cards and crocheted Christmas ornaments, amongst other crafts. She will be remembered as the sweetest, kindest person, and as one who loved the Lord with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Helen Hubbs; brother, Gerald Hubbs; and sister, Kathryn Fowler Nichols. Leoti never married or had any children but loved her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her niece Hazel Beth Hubbs. She is survived by her nephews, David Hubbs, Duane Hubbs, and Neal Hubbs; nieces, Cynthia Diane Knowles, Margie Black, Joyce Jantz, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Heickman Cemetery, 7900 Smith Rd, Somerset, Texas by Southside Funeral Home. A luncheon will be held afterward at Somerset Methodist Church, 8175 7th St., Somerset, Texas.
