Obituary

On Monday, January 25, 2021, Juanita C. Marroquin, loving mother and grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 88. Janie, as everyone called her, was born on May 17, 1932 in San Antonio, Texas to Marcos and Guadalupe Cantu. She worked at the NIX Hospital as a dietary aid and retired in 1994. Janie was a member of Harlandale Christian Church since 1994 and was always ready to lend a hand. She was known to prepare communion for the church when others were not able. For many years, Janie volunteered her Friday mornings with "Food for Thought," where members of the church would serve beverages and pastries to students from Harlandale Middle and High schools. Janie had a passion for gardening and animals. She loved collecting seeds and easily grew flowers and trees from them. She always found time to pull weeds in her yard, other peoples' yards, and even on her walks. Janie especially loved breeding chihuahuas and cockatiels and had a gift of nurturing the weaker puppies and hatchlings to health. She was known for her loving heart, sense of humor, willingness to help others, and opening her home to family. Janie was preceded in death by her father, Marcos, mother, Guadalupe, and siblings Consuelo, Bruno, Catarino, and Frank. She is survived by her children Raymundo Marroquin (Oralia), Yolanda Martinez (Jesus), and Maricela Ramirez (Michael), 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. Her life was a living example of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. 5 It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at San Jose Burial Park.
