Obituary

Jose Luis Moreno was born June 26, 1972, in Beeville, Texas, where he was also raised. He was the son of the late Ada Moreno and Santiago Moreno.

Luis spent many years working as a handyman and had a natural talent for building, repairing, and creating. He especially enjoyed woodworking and had an appreciation for rustic style and craftsmanship. He was always full of ideas and rarely far from another project he wanted to tackle.

Those who knew Luis will remember his charisma and his ability to talk to just about anyone. He was a true people person who enjoyed a good gathering, cumbia and rock and roll, Texas Longhorn football, a plate of flautas, and, of course, his Ford Ranger.

Luis was also incredibly thoughtful. He paid attention to the little things people enjoyed and often surprised family members with gifts or small treasures simply because something had reminded him of them. It was one of the many ways he showed people that he was thinking of them.

Family held a special place in Luis's life. Although he never married or had children of his own, his nieces and nephews grew up with him as a constant presence and were his kids in all the ways that mattered. He was there for birthdays, celebrations, family gatherings, and the everyday moments in between. As they grew and began families of their own, Luis embraced another generation of great-nieces and great-nephews with the same love and devotion.

Luis showed his love in a way that was uniquely his. Sometimes it was by simply showing up. Sometimes it was by fixing something, offering an idea, bringing a thoughtful gift, sharing a joke, or making sure his family knew he was there. His presence became such a natural part of family life that his absence will be felt in countless ways.

Luis was preceded in death by his parents, Ada Moreno and Santiago Moreno, and his brother, Ernesto De La Ola.

He is survived by his sister, Martha Rosas; his brothers, Martin Valadez and Jose Ramon Moreno; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; as well as extended family and many friends who loved him.

Luis will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his charisma, his thoughtfulness, his love for his family, and the unmistakable presence he brought wherever he went. His family will carry him forward through the stories they tell, the laughter they share, the things he built, and the generations who grew up knowing they could count on Tío Luis being there.

And because Luis always had his own way of saying goodbye:

"Te vanas."
