Obituary

It is with great sadness in our hearts that our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt went into the arms of Our Lord at the age of 92 on May 7, 2025.
Janie was born in Von Ormy, Texas and resided for many years. Our mother was a very strong-willed person, who went through many struggles. She never gave up and survived it all.
Our mother Janie had a kind and generous heart that excelled beyond comparison for her family and friends. As a youngster she was taken out from school to take care of her younger brothers so her parents could both work and provide for the family. She also worked on local farms to earn extra money to help her family and others in need.
Years later after her children were in school, she entered the work force to provide again for her family. Mom was always good at what she was doing, nothing held her back. Mom tackled everything with fierce force and finesse. She was strong in her beliefs and strong conviction, especially concerning her children.
Mom was born and raised a Catholic and nurtured her children in the same faith. She enjoyed life with her husband and children, and grandchildren, and great grand babies. Her hobbies were sewing for family and friends. She was a good cook and loved preparing for the tamale season. She always gave everyone advanced notice for the day and time for the tamale event so there were no excuses not to be there. She liked taking care of her plants, working on her word search puzzles, and was an avid reader.
Mother was preceded in death by her parents Carpio and Eloisa Villarreal, her brothers Carpio Jr, and Juan Jose Villarreal. Her spouse Jesse S. Gonzalez, her granddaughter Jessica Marie Hernandez and stepson Kenneth Gonzalez.
She is survived by her brother Felipe and spouse Rebecca Villarreal, her children Charlie and spouse Michelle Hernandez, Irma, Jesse and Nora Hernandez and her youngest son Jesse and spouse Vanessa Gonzalez, stepchildren Esther B., Ronald and Jeffery Gonzalez.
Also survived by her grandchildren Jacob and spouse Rose, David, Clinton and Kathy, and Camyrn and spouse Frank, Abigail, Felisha and spouse Chris, Yessenia, Priscilla. Also, her great grandchildren Dylan, Kallista, Alyssa, Fernando, Daniel, Cassidy, Hunter, Avery, Farrah, Luna, Alivia Ann, Nevaeh and Alexander. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and many lifetime friends.

We would like to extend our sincere and great appreciation to La Diferencia Hospice and staff: Griselda Colacino, Amber Gilbreath, Sonja Elliot and Carla Stewart. Thank you for all the great care and kindness and patience towards our mother in her final days.

A visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.  A procession will leave the funeral home for a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at San Fernando Cemetery #2 on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
