SSG Harold Smith, U.S. Army (ret.) went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the age of 82 years. He enjoyed singing, reading, cooking, watching Westerns, and collecting model airplanes. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mamie Edna Smith; sister, Jane Joyle; and great-granddaughter, Isabella Faith Martinez. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Maria Lydia Smith; children, Jane Maria Looper, Harold John Smith (Nada), Edna Alice Reyes, Shirley Librada Martinez (Felipe), Betty Fay Smith, and Suzie Marie Cabrera (Alfonso); sisters, Leta Johnson (James) and Betty Vick; brother-in-law, Eugene Joyle; nineteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 8th at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
