Obituary

Fabian Zaiontz was born in Falls City, Texas on June 18, 1935, and passed from this life on September 16, 2017 in San Antonio. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia, and his parents Frank and Tekla Zaiontz. The couple married on June 9, 1956 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They moved from Falls City to San Antonio shortly after the birth of their first son and continued to live out their lives there.

Fabian and his wife were very active in multiple parishes in San Antonio. They first joined St. Leo's Catholic Church and later helped establish a new parish at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.  The couple also worked very closely with the clergy, administrators and parishioners of St. James Catholic Church.

Fabian was known by his family and friends as being one of the toughest individuals one could meet. His first place of employment after moving to San Antonio was at Friedrich Air Conditioning. Later he was employed by Metalcrafters of San Antonio where he developed a unique niche for designing and fabricating commercial truck bodies for the beverage industry and other specialized commercial vehicles. After joining AMA Manufacturing, he helped develop one of the earliest pneumatic lift delivery vehicles for the auto industry. Fabian also spent many nights and weekends engaging in his favorite "hobby" which was raising cattle. He told his closest friends many times that he was happiest most when he was riding on his John Deere tractor, plowing the fields and planting the seed that would grow to feed his cattle.

He was known to his immediate family members as "Pop." Pop is survived by his three sons: Lester Lee, Karl Wayne, and Bryan Keith; their spouses: Tony, Kathy, and Dixie, respectively. He has 8 grandchildren: Kelsey, Cody, John, Bryan, Mason, Kyle, Cassidy and Kevin. He is survived by four great-grandchildren as well: Kynlee, Eli, and newborn twins Dalton and Braylee.

Fabian was the eldest of his brothers: Chester Zaiontz (deceased) and wife Katherine, Thomas (Tommy) Zaiontz and wife Elaine, David Zaiontz and wife Evangeline, and Walter Zaiontz and his wife, Shirley (deceased). He attended Falls City High School.
