Celestina
Garzes
May 19, 1942 — Mar 21, 2024
Our beloved mother Celestina A. Garzes passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 21, 2024 at the age of 81 years old. She was proceeded in death by her Husband Ramiro O. Garzes (June 24, 2016), son Rosendo Aguilar (November 26, 2011) and granddaughter Sgt. Denise M. Sanfillipo (October 11, 2008). She is survived by her daughters Gloria Rubio, Ruby Martinez, Sally Phillips, Sylvia (Randy) Casteel, Liz Sanchez, Becky Garzes, DeeDee Garzes and Sarah Garzes. Leaving behind a legacy of over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. While this loss is devesting as we all know Celestina, better known as "Sally," was the glue to her family but knowing she's now with her loving husband of over 56 years is comforting.
Sally born in the heart of San Antonio, TX on May 19,1942 was one of 17 brothers and sisters. A true San Antonian enjoying all the aspects this beautiful city had to offer from enjoying picnics at the Lady of the Lake University to walks on the Mission Trails. Although her passion was her children and grandchildren who always made it a point to be there whenever they needed her. Always there to welcome the newest member to the family embracing them with hugs and kisses. Sally, a beacon of knowledge who never forgot anyone's birthday and always made sure everyone had a present at Christmas time. She enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and always had her radio playing her favorite music. She especially enjoyed trips to the beach, camping underneath the stars and the sounds of crashing waves of the sea. Hearing the laughter and chatter of her children gave her so much joy. Telling stories of her of life and love for Elvis Presley, she always had a fridge full of food for any unexpected guests and cold Big Reds because that was everyone's favorite drink. A strong and sometimes stubborn woman, she beat cancer twice and was immensely proud to be a breast cancer survivor. Even though red was her favorite color she always wore pink to show her support for her fellow warriors. Full of knowledge, our very own personal encyclopedia and dictionary. Everyone knew who to call if we had any questions on any subject. She was our very own nurse and doctor, who knew how to treat any ailments. Very own personal chef was full of the best recipes and loved to cook for her family. We'll miss our beloved mother deeply, especially her smiles and warm embraces.
Visitation will be held Tuesday March 26, 2024 at 5:00 PM at Southside Funeral Home with Rosary services to begin at 6:00 PM. All friends and family are welcome to attend, we ask that anyone who attends to wear her favorite color (red) to honor her memory.
