Carole Dawn Schmidt went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the age of 79 years. She enjoyed painting, cooking, canning, playing games, and the outdoors. Carole loved all animals, especially her dogs. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gordon Schmidt and mother, Virgie Dickens Valenta. Carole is survived by her daughter, Dena Chenault; grandson, Hunter Chenault; sister, Charlene Ross and husband Gerald; niece, Ginger Treanor and husband Aaron; and nephews, Gerald A. "Bubba" Ross and wife Crystal and Glenn Ross and wife Michelle; also numerous great nieces and great nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17th at Southside Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home, on Wednesday, September 18th at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Carole's memory to the Humane Society.
